In a recent copy of "TIME" magazine under religion, an article headed; "to pray or not to pray" gained my attention. To me it pointed out how confused, how very sick much Christian thinking is today. When prayers used to open and close the Democratic and Republican conventions, the age old question was again brought forward… should different denominations of Christians pray together – or alongside members of other faiths – and if so, under what circumstances? The Roman Catholic Church is notoriously sparing… with their permission to let Catholics worship with non-Catholics. So are the conservative protestants such as the Missouri Synod Lutherans, who say among other things that public prayer at Civic functions is permissible "only if it is doctrinally uncompromised". When you hear of situations like this, do you ever wonder if Christians all worship the same God? Tell me, is there a special God for eastern Catholic… another for the Roman Catholic and over 265 Messiahs for the more than 265 Protestant denominations and sects in the world today?  I think not. The communists are now sitting right at our doorstep. With a good foothold in Cuba, they are knocking at our door. The atheist forces of the communist block must surely rub their hands in glee as they see Christian clergy stumbling and fumbling over such issues as, should man, regardless of the complexion of his belief, kneel down and pray with his fellow man? I was under the impression we were all the children of God – yes, even those who do not believe at all. So many clergymen remind me of a group of gentlemen in a sinking boat, who, rather than do something to mend the craft, let it sink to the bottom as they argue the best way to bail it out… with spoon… pail… or pump.
