Alderman Ed Leger got it in the neck from his fellow councilman last night. Alderman Leger, it will be remembered is the self appointed watchdog of city Council. This is all well and good and a debt of gratitude is owed this gentleman for uncovering some pretty unusual goings-on in the previous administration. However, since that time Mr. Leger seems to be fighting shadows and I am sure many citizens feel as I do, that the "gentleman protesteth too much." I am sure Leger could find something insidious irregular and worth investigating at a Brownie Pack meeting. Frankly I am a little tired of Mr. Leger's constant campaign to keep his fellow councilman honest. I know society has need of vigilant reformers, but this constant harping on the same old thing… this never ending campaign of innuendo contributes little to the administration of the city and certainly does nothing for the reputation of the people who fall under Mr. Leger's self righteous gaze. It was, to me, a little amusing that he should turn his guns on Mayor Roper. We all know Mr. Roper and if there is a more honest man in the world, I'd like to meet him. If Mr. Roper was ever involved in any irregularities in any area of his life, then stop the world, I am getting off. Mr. Leger can yell "IRREGULARITIES" ‘till the cows come home, and not too many of us who know and respect Mr. Roper will listen. Mr. Leger, may I, as a simple tax payer, make a suggestion? Why not go to work on CONSTRUCTIVE issues and give up the witch-hunt. We need councilmen who are interested in building up the city, not in tearing down the character of other public servants.
