I am amazed at how little many parents work at raising their child. So many feel that their job is finished when they provide food, clothing and a roof over the child's head. Each child is like a piece of clay that must be carefully molded, and shaped into something worthwhile, and so long as you are a mother or father your job is NEVER done.  Have you ever looked into the eyes of a six or seven year old as you briefly lectured on right and wrong and wondered if you are getting through? I am sure you have. Children have to be told, not once, twice or three times, but over and over again, year in and year out that “this is wrong, but this is right and this is open to question”.  To the very best of your ability you have to give them a foundation on which to build their own lives. In the light of your own wisdom and experience you have to guide them along the right path, and when they go wrong, you have to bring them back to the straight and narrow and help them start over again. Your children will be the sum total of all they see, hear, experience and receive from YOU.  You cannot abdicate your responsibilities to any friend, teacher or coach. With few exceptions, your child will be what YOU have made him. The old fashion values are often held up to ridicule these days, and yet I feel these are the only values worth passing to your young ones. As the old proverb puts it, "train up a child in the way he should go and he will not depart from it.”
