One of my sons came to the table with dirty hands the other day. "You go in there and wash up,” I told him. "But I just washed,” he replied.  Like most children he is great at half-way measures.  A quick once over with a little water and less soap and he figures the job is done. Since he had spent a little time at it, he figured he had accomplish his purpose. No doubt you have gone through this in your home with your own children. But how about YOU and I as parents? How about OUR half-way measures?  So many of us check into our jobs at 9 and leave right on the dot at 5, convinced that we have done a full days work….when in reality, we have given no more than half our best effort. We give the odd dollar to worthwhile charities without getting personally involved.  We send the kids to Cubs and Scouts but fail to show up at the father-and-son-night. We criticize the school and the teacher but steer clear of the PTA meetings. We malign the government and then on election day find it too much of a rush to turn up at the polling booth. Yes, I am afraid many of us are guilty of half-way measures.  I would go so far as to say it has become our way of life. It's pretty hard today to find people, who, in all areas of living, really give a hoot!
