I belong to a very mobile generation. I was not amazed to read recently that in a one-year timeframe, one in five families pull up stakes and moved. In 12 months over 20% of the population relocated. I think this is a great pity because in this hectic day and age, I feel we all need the roots of a permanent home. You will no doubt remember if you were a service man during the war how wonderful it was to be "going home". Home was the refuge, the comfort, the one thing that was unchanged and unchangeable. There were memories in the home. There was warmth there and peace, and everything was familiar and real. I hate to see parents move out of the family home after all the children have gone, not only for the parents sake, but also for the children’s sake. Often it is hard for the parents in reduced circumstances to maintain the family home. Here is where the youngsters should step in with help if they can because that home is so often the anchor they need during troubled times. It is always a comfort to know that regardless of how tossed about we may become in the sea of life, there is forever a quiet, welcome harbor waiting by the familiar fireside…at home.
