While driving along a Boulevard in a fine neighborhood I noticed a large black Rolls-Royce automobile stalled by the wayside. The hood of this magnificent car was up and the owner was hanging into the engine compartment trying to find the trouble. It was late at night and very dark and since my car had a spotlight I offered my help to this man by shining the light into the engine. When I stopped he was obviously a little embarrassed for as he said, "when you buy a Rolls you don't expect this kind of trouble.” We found that this great car has ground to a halt because a minute screw had fallen out of place. A screw that would cost less than half a penny had disabled a $17,000 piece of machinery. You know this is often the way with life. We all express a keen desire to keep this country of ours a democratic and happy place in which to live, but who among us will speak up when some word or deed chips away at the very things in which we are all supposed to believe. We tolerate the small hurts and discriminations we see directed at minority groups. We violate the small laws designed for our protection in the hope we will not get caught. We fail to speak up against the bad appointment or the shoddy referendum.  Like the man with the Rolls, we fail to see that these small things can be very important. It is well to remember always that if we give attention to the little things, the larger things will look after themselves.
